The opening of the 16th Abidjan International Book Fair (SILA) , this Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Exhibition Park, marked a symbolic turning point for the cultural sector. Under the high patronage of President Alassane Ouattara , the Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Françoise Remarck , strongly reaffirmed that culture is no longer mere entertainment, but a true engine of growth and stability for Côte d'Ivoire.

Culture: A Pillar of Peace and Development

In a speech filled with gratitude towards the head of state, the minister highlighted the transformation of the public vision:

  1. Economic lever: Culture now actively contributes to national wealth.
  2. Social cohesion: It educates, unites and consolidates lasting peace.

The 2026 edition is distinguished by powerful symbols:

  1. Lebanon in the spotlight: A choice celebrating resilience and the deep historical ties between the two nations.
  2. Maurice Bandaman celebrated: The Ivory Coast ambassador to France and winner of the Grand Prix National de Littérature Bernard Dadié was hailed as a guardian of Ivorian identity.
  3. Prestigious sponsorship: Ally Coulibaly, Grand Chancellor of the National Order, has been held up as a role model for new generations.
  4. Bouaké in the spotlight: The city has been praised for its dynamism in promoting reading.

From Trade to "African Intelligence"

The general commissioner of SILA, Anges Félix N'Dakpri , recalled the progress made. Thanks to presidential support, the fair has transformed: from a trade fair, it has become a global intellectual hub .

"If infrastructure builds the body of a nation, culture and books constitute its soul," he stated to illustrate the importance of this event.
