The Ivorian government is taking the offensive to restore its green heritage. On Monday, July 13, 2026, the city of Gagnoa hosted the official launch of the Goh Region Forest Restoration Project (PRF-Goh) .

The ceremony took place in the presence of a large ministerial delegation, led by Assahoré Konan Jacques (Water and Forests) and Koné Bruno (Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production). This large-scale project benefits from significant support: a non-repayable grant awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany, through its development bank, KfW .

5 years to transform the agricultural and forestry landscape

The five-year PRF-Goh project will bring together teams from the Ministry of Water and Forests, the Rural Land Agency ( AFOR ), and several partner organizations. Together, they will support local communities and agricultural producers through three main levers:

  1. Intensive reforestation.
  2. The development of agroforestry.
  3. Securing land rights.

Ambitious quantified objectives

By the end of the project, the expected results are massive:

  1. 275,000 hectares of rural land secured free of charge for the benefit of the population.
  2. 36,000 hectares of agroforestry and reforestation plots created.
  3. Rigorous technical support and appropriate financial and material incentives for producers.

An ecological, economic and social impact

Beyond reforestation and biodiversity conservation, Minister Assahoré Jacques described this project as a "tremendous opportunity" for the Gôh region. The PRF-Goh aims to:

  1. To sustainably improve the incomes of local farmers.
  2. Create local jobs , primarily targeting women and young people.
  3. Strengthening community resilience to climate change.
The government's vision: To make Gôh a national model where high-performing agriculture coexists harmoniously with a restored forest, transforming each tree planted into an investment for future generations.

To achieve this goal, the minister emphasized that the state's commitment alone will not suffice. Success will depend on the full involvement of all stakeholders: local authorities, traditional leaders, religious leaders, producers, women, and youth. Meeting this challenge will strengthen KfW's confidence and attract significant new funding to the region.

In the face of the climate emergency, national action is accelerating.

The forest situation in Côte d'Ivoire is critical: the country has lost 90% of its forest cover in 60 years . This ecological disaster directly threatens the national economy. Without action, climate change could inflict an estimated financial loss of between 380 and 770 billion CFA francs on the country by 2040 , with the agricultural sector bearing the brunt of the impact.

To counter this threat, the Ivorian government has placed forest restoration at the heart of its priorities, notably through the National Development Plan ( PND 2026-2030 ). It is within this strategic framework that the financial support from German cooperation is situated.

To ensure the immediate and effective deployment of the project on the ground, significant quantities of equipment were officially handed over to the operational teams, including 4x4 all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, surveillance drones and state-of-the-art topographic equipment .
