UIP à Istanbul : Kandia Camara prône une diplomatie parlementaire au service du développement local

Meeting in Istanbul (Turkey) for the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) , the President of the Senate of Côte d'Ivoire, Ms. Kandia Camara , made a strong impression on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Speaking on behalf of the Ivorian nation, she called for a profound transformation of inter-parliamentary cooperation to concretely address territorial challenges.

Three major areas for modern parliamentary action

Far from mere declarations of intent, Kandia Camara submitted three strategic proposals to her peers aimed at making legislative action more effective and connected to citizens' realities:

  1. Concrete follow-up to resolutions: Creating permanent mechanisms within each Parliament to transform international recommendations into genuine national public policies.
  2. Financial innovation: Promoting cooperation frameworks dedicated to local financing, focusing in particular on public-private partnerships (PPPs) and innovative financial tools.
  3. Digital ethics: Developing a parliamentary charter for an inclusive Artificial Intelligence (AI) that is ethical and respectful of the cultural specificities of each society.

Parliament, guarantor of national stability

Accompanied by the President of the National Assembly, Adama Bictogo (represented by the institution's missions), the President of the Senate recalled the historical role of the Ivorian Parliament.

"Parliament has established itself as a pillar of stability through the adoption of amnesty laws, electoral reform, and compensation for victims."

She stressed that the advent of the Senate in 2016 made it possible to broaden this dynamic by offering a strong institutional voice to local authorities as well as to the diaspora .

From reflection to immediate action

For Kandia Camara, parliamentary debate must be a "demand for action." She emphasized the need to:

  1. Strengthening the bond of trust between the state and its citizens.
  2. Fighting against inequality and exclusion to consolidate peace.
  3. To ensure the long-term control of government action so that it meets the real needs of the population.

The work of this 152nd assembly continues until April 19 , placing Côte d'Ivoire at the heart of the global dialogue on governance and international cooperation.
