Ce qu’il faut savoir sur la nouvelle réforme des associations
After 64 years of the status quo, Côte d'Ivoire is finally modernizing its legal framework. On March 19, the National Assembly definitively adopted Ordinance No. 2024-368 , a text that updates the 1960 law to adapt it to the contemporary challenges of civil society.

While modernizing a text dating back to independence seems necessary, it is not universally accepted. Part of civil society fears that this increased state control could hinder independent associations or infringe upon freedom of religion.
The challenge: To succeed in securing the associative space without stifling the voices that compose it.
The expert's view: This reform lies at the crossroads of administrative ambition and democratic imperative. Only time will tell whether this law truly fosters the growth of civil society or whether it marks a turning point towards a more rigid regulation of the Ivorian public sphere.
