From June 28 to 30, 2026, the Ivorian Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Sidi Tiémoko Touré , undertook a three-day working mission to Egypt. This highly strategic trip resulted in the signing of several key agreements aimed at modernizing the livestock, fishing, and aquaculture sectors in Côte d'Ivoire.

Beyond bilateral meetings with his Egyptian counterpart in Agriculture, Alaa Eddine Farouk — elevated for the occasion to the rank of Commander of the Order of Merit of Agriculture of Ivory Coast —, this visit made it possible to realize common ambitions through firm commitments.

🤝 Major agreements for animal health and training

A first memorandum of understanding has been initialed between the Ivorian Ministry and the Egyptian Authority for the Protection and Development of Lakes and Fisheries. This alliance targets four key areas of development:

1. Animal production and yield improvement.
2. Veterinary health and local vaccine production.
3. Strengthening skills through training programs dedicated to Ivorian managers and technicians.

🐟 Ghalioun's model: heading towards fisheries sovereignty

The Ivorian delegation visited the industrial city of Ghalioun , one of the jewels of Egyptian and African aquaculture. This state-of-the-art complex houses certified research laboratories, fish and shrimp feed factories, as well as processing facilities and huge hatcheries.

Inspired by this success, Côte d'Ivoire signed a second memorandum of understanding with the Egyptian National Fisheries and Aquaculture Company (NCFA) . This agreement provides for:

1. The creation of an Ivorian aquaculture city modeled on the Ghalioun model.
2. Technical support to structure the governance of the sector.
3. Promoting synergies and commercial partnerships between operators in both countries.

📈 Attractiveness and investment opportunities

Minister Sidi Tiémoko Touré also took advantage of this platform to present business opportunities in Ivory Coast during a meeting with the Federation of Egyptian Industries .

The discussions highlighted Ivory Coast's potential in animal and fishery resources, while exploring innovative solutions such as the integration of renewable energies (particularly solar) into agricultural infrastructure.

The ultimate goal: For the Ivorian government, this mission to Egypt is fully in line with its national strategy to modernize its production sectors, attract private capital and, ultimately, guarantee the country's food sovereignty .
