Identité ivoirienne attribuée à tort : Abidjan rétablit les faits
The Embassy of Côte d'Ivoire in Canada has spoken out against reports broadcast by Radio-Canada that identified an individual convicted of serious crimes as Ivorian and reportedly facing deportation to Abidjan. In an official statement released Friday, February 13, 2026, in Ottawa, the Ivorian diplomatic mission formally refuted these claims, calling them "inaccurate, unfounded, and erroneous."
According to the diplomatic mission, the checks carried out did not establish that the person in question possesses Ivorian nationality. Consequently, the hypothesis of his return to Côte d'Ivoire is not based on any administrative grounds recognized by the competent authorities.
This clarification aims to preserve the image of the country as well as that of the Ivorian community living in Canada, while recalling that the granting of nationality is subject to strict procedures governed by the laws in force.
By reacting firmly, the Embassy intends to avoid any confusion and reaffirms the necessity, in deportation cases, of relying exclusively on authenticated documentary evidence. This position is part of a diplomatic approach of heightened vigilance regarding information deemed likely to damage Côte d'Ivoire's international reputation.
