Senegal : Les marchés financiers s'inquiètent : les obligations sénégalaises chutent après les propos du Président
Senegal is experiencing turbulence on international markets. On Tuesday, the value of the country's sovereign bonds fell significantly, dropping by as much as 1.2 cents following President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's high-profile media appearance. According to reports from Reuters, this decline followed the president's statements regarding the future of his own political camp.
According to Tradeweb data cited by Reuters, the price of the bond maturing in 2031 fell to 59 cents per dollar, a drop of 1.245 cents. This movement reflects growing investor nervousness in the face of uncertainties surrounding political stability in Dakar.
The market reaction stemmed from a statement made by the president over the weekend. Bassirou Diomaye Faye publicly warned that Pastef, the ruling party, risked collapse if its supporters did not change course. Although the head of state clarified that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko would remain in his post as long as he fulfilled his duties properly, the tone of his speech alarmed financial circles.
Analysts believe these remarks hint at potential tensions at a time when the country needs to reassure its economic partners. This decline in international bonds underscores the markets' sensitivity to signals from the government, with the stability of the ruling bloc remaining a key indicator for Senegal's creditors on the world stage.
