Côte d’Ivoire : un plan spécifique en préparation pour combler le déficit de professeurs de mathématiques
Faced with a growing shortage of mathematics teachers in middle and high schools, the Ministry of National Education and Literacy is preparing a specific plan to revitalize the teaching of scientific disciplines. This initiative follows a working session between Minister N'Guessan Koffi and the Mathematical Society of Côte d'Ivoire.
The shortage of qualified teachers is already impacting several schools, where courses are sometimes taught by non-specialists, resulting in a decline in students' level and the gradual disappearance of certain science courses.
The proposed plan includes strengthening teacher training, revising curricula and teaching materials, and taking proactive steps to rekindle students' interest in mathematics from primary school onwards. The goal is also to rebuild a pool of future teachers and revitalize science and technology programs.
Through this reform, the educational authorities intend to make mathematics a strategic lever for the training of skills capable of supporting the development and industrialization of the country.
