Le nouveau marché à bétail transfrontalier de Ouangolodougou officiellement inauguré
This is a major step forward for the livestock and meat sector in the Tchologo region. On Friday, May 15, 2026, the Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, officially inaugurated the modern livestock market in Ouangolodougou.
Located in the village of Bénifesso, on the outskirts of the municipality, this new commercial hub covers an area of three hectares .
Funded to the tune of 252 million FCFA , this complex was designed to meet current industry standards. It is equipped with comprehensive infrastructure for the comfort of the participants and the well-being of the animals:
This project is not isolated: it is part of a vast regional program of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union ( UEMOA ). This plan aims to boost the competitiveness of the sector by building and rehabilitating strategic cross-border markets in Benin, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Togo .
During the ceremony, Minister Sidi Tiémoko Touré warmly welcomed the technical and financial support of the WAEMU:
"This modern market addresses a real need: to offer stakeholders in different sectors a structured, secure framework adapted to current requirements. It will contribute to improving the fluidity of trade, reducing losses, and guaranteeing better sanitary conditions for both producers and consumers."
For his part, Mongbo Jean Jacques, special advisor to the UEMOA resident representative in Côte d'Ivoire, pointed out that this infrastructure goes beyond a simple commercial framework. It represents a "strategic instrument for food security, regional integration and support for the structural transformation of the economies" of the sub-region.
The opening of this market was met with immense relief by those most directly affected. Gaoussou Soumahoro, president of the Interprofessional Agricultural Organization for the Small Ruminant Sector ( INTERPRU ), expressed his gratitude to the minister for his unwavering support of the pastoral community. For him and all the professionals involved, this new working tool is a true source of encouragement and hope for the future of livestock farming in Côte d'Ivoire.
