Pénurie de sang : le CNTS lance une alerte urgente pour le groupe O
Despite exceptional results for 2025, the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS) is starting 2026 under pressure. While overall collection targets have been exceeded, a critical shortage of O+ and O- blood types is currently threatening the health situation across the country.
A record of solidarity in 2025. Professor Yassongui Mamadou, Director General of the CNTS (National Blood Transfusion Center), took the opportunity during his New Year's greetings to celebrate a "collective victory." With 309,767 units of blood collected against an initial target of 300,000, the past year has demonstrated the commitment of donors and volunteers.
The Urgent Need for Blood Group O: However, this success is overshadowed by the rapid depletion of blood group O reserves. This group is vital: as the "universal donor" (particularly O-), it is the first to be called upon in life-threatening emergencies when the patient's blood type is unknown. Professor Mamadou is therefore calling for the immediate mobilization of donors of this specific group to replenish stocks this week.
