Accident de la route à Sassandra : deux morts et six blessés graves dans une collision
The roads once again brought grief to Ivorian families this Sunday, May 3, 2026. A particularly violent accident occurred approximately 22 km from San-Pédro, near the village of Kouamékro. A collision involving a large bus and a minibus of the "Massa" type claimed the lives of both drivers and left six passengers in critical condition. The impact was so severe that both driver's cabs were completely crushed, leaving the drivers no chance of survival.
Alerted, the civilian firefighters from the San-Pédro Emergency Response Center (CSU) had to carry out a complex operation to extricate the victims trapped in the wreckage. The six seriously injured, suffering from multiple traumas, were rushed to the San-Pédro Regional Hospital under medical escort. The other passengers, although miraculously spared from fatal injuries, remain deeply shaken by the extreme violence of the impact that sent both vehicles hurtling off the road.
According to initial findings of the investigation launched by the gendarmerie, failure to respect speed limits in an area known for its dangerous curves appears to be the cause of the tragedy. This latest accident on the coastal road serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for road users and haulers to exercise extra caution. While emergency services were working at the scene, local authorities issued a plea for calm and prudence to prevent the region's roads from continuing to become open-air graveyards.
