Le ministre des Mines de la RDC échappe à un crash aérien à Kolwezi
The Minister of Mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Louis Watum Kabamba , narrowly escaped an air crash on Sunday at Kolwezi airport in Lualaba province.
According to initial reports, the plane carrying the minister and his delegation skidded on landing and left the runway before flames broke out on board. Approximately twenty people were on board. Thanks to a swift evacuation , all were able to leave the aircraft unharmed , according to the minister's communications advisor. However, the delegation's luggage was lost in the fire.
While the exact causes of the incident remain to be determined, sources suggest a technical problem related to the aircraft's tires . Authorities have announced the launch of a technical investigation to understand why the aircraft veered off the runway.
The minister was visiting Kolwezi on an important ministerial mission following a deadly landslide at an artisanal mine , which reportedly killed more than 30 miners. The visit aimed to assess the situation on the ground and engage in dialogue with mining stakeholders to strengthen safety in the sector.
Airport emergency services responded quickly to control the fire and secure the area. The Ministry of Mines emphasized that passenger safety had been maintained and that ministerial activities on the ground would continue as normal.
