The Directorate General of Land Transport and Traffic (DGTTC) is launching an offensive against non-compliant equipment in Abidjan. The first target of this administrative control operation: the famous "dabagaou" which equips many gbakas (minibuses).

Why are these iron bars being targeted?

These imposing metal structures, fixed to the front of vehicles around the headlights and bumpers, pose a twofold problem:

Increased danger: In the event of a collision, they protect the gbaka but considerably worsen the material and bodily damage to other users.
Feeling of impunity: Reassured by this makeshift armor, many drivers adopt an aggressive driving style, not hesitating to force their way through Abidjan traffic jams.

What the new measure says

The DGTTC has issued an ultimatum to gbaka owners in the Abidjan district:

Compliance deadline: All "dabagaou" must be voluntarily removed before June 30, 2026 .
Other equipment concerned: The rear mud flaps will also need to be adjusted to comply with current regulatory standards.

The authorities' objective: To strengthen road safety, ease coexistence between motorists on the road and eliminate devices deemed dangerous.

The countdown has begun for road haulers in the economic capital.
