A terrible road accident plunged the town of Adzopé into mourning on the night of Sunday, June 14, 2026. A man lost his life after being violently struck by a 4x4 vehicle, as he was preparing to watch the football match between Ivory Coast and Equateur.

The circumstances of the tragedy

The tragedy occurred around 10 p.m., near the "Excellence" bar and restaurant. Shortly before the accident, the victim was enjoying a friendly moment with friends while waiting for the match to kick off, scheduled for 11 p.m.

Wishing to settle comfortably into his home in the Habitat neighborhood to support the Elephants, the man took a taxi. As he was getting out of the vehicle and crossing the road to reach his residence, he was struck head-on by an SUV traveling at high speed on the Amakpétabois–Town Hall road. The impact was so violent that the victim died instantly.
