Drame au Brésil : un adolescent de 13 ans succombe à une attaque de requin

The coastline of Pernambuco state in northeastern Brazil is once again in mourning. A 13-year-old boy died on Thursday after being bitten by a shark off the coast of Olinda , on Chifre beach. Despite prompt medical attention, the teenager succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.

A sector under close surveillance

Although the beaches in the area are popular with tourists for their idyllic appearance, the accident zone has been identified as particularly dangerous . The State Committee for Incident Monitoring (CEMIT) stated that:

Chifre beach had already been the subject of four recent warnings .
This is the second attack recorded in the region since the beginning of the year.
The risk is concentrated on a specific 33-kilometer stretch between Recife and Olinda.

Assessment and security measures

Since 1992, the state of Pernambuco has recorded a total of 81 attacks , 26 of which were fatal. Faced with the resurgence of these incidents, local authorities have decided to take firm action.

Note: The government has announced the return of shark monitoring via microchips . This technological program, which allows shark movements to be tracked in real time, had been discontinued 11 years ago.
