Face aux tensions au Moyen-Orient, des étudiants américains trouvent refuge au Maroc
The climate of growing instability between Iran and Israel has disrupted the daily lives of American students in a language immersion program. Initially based in Jordan to improve their Arabic, they were urgently evacuated to Rabat , which became their new academic home.
What was meant to be a precautionary measure turned into a hasty departure. Within 24 hours , the students left Amman for Morocco. Tyler Fischman, one of the participants, quoted by the Brown Daily Herald , described the abrupt change in the security situation:
"I've never seen anything like it. We heard three or four sirens a day, and I even saw missile interceptions in the sky."
Now safe in the Moroccan capital, the students are continuing their semester through a hybrid format combining in-person classes and online sessions. This transfer, however, presents a new linguistic challenge: adapting to Darija (Moroccan Arabic), whose sounds and vocabulary differ radically from the Jordanian dialect.
Despite this culture shock, the dominant feeling remains one of relief:
This mass exodus is taking place within a strict diplomatic framework. American authorities have issued numerous security alerts, urging their citizens to immediately leave several countries in the region, including Jordan, due to the risk of military escalation.
By choosing Morocco, exchange programs rely on the stability of the Kingdom to guarantee the safety of their students while maintaining the excellence of their language training.
