France : Vaste coup de filet contre le narco-blanchiment, plus de 5 milliards de FCFA saisis
The French National Police have dealt a major blow to criminal networks. In just three weeks, the judicial police services, under the authority of the JIRS (Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction) of Paris, dismantled four money laundering networks linked to drug trafficking.
The financial results are colossal: more than 9 million euros seized (approximately 5.9 billion FCFA).
Timeline of operations
- May 28 and 29: Ten individuals linked to a cannabis and cocaine importation network were arrested. Law enforcement seized 520 kg of cannabis resin, €233,600 in cash, and luxury watches.
- June 3: Dismantling of a money laundering network linked to drug trafficking. This operation resulted in 5 arrests and the seizure of €520,500.
- June 6 and 7: Two fundraisers were arrested en route to Belgium with €145,900. The investigation uncovered nearly 70 fundraising operations across 17 French departments. The investigations also led to the seizure of nearly €8.4 million and several luxury vehicles in Belgium.
- June 16: The final blow came with the arrest of 7 people belonging to a network that had laundered over €192 million over a five-year period. During this operation, €745,000 was confiscated.
A heavy judicial record
In total, these coordinated operations led to the indictment of 22 people , 19 of whom were placed in pre-trial detention .
