The Lyon prosecutor's office confirmed on Saturday, February 14, the death of Quentin, a 23-year-old student. Hospitalized for two days, the young man had been the victim of a violent attack while providing security for an identitarian group during a demonstration.

The facts: a suspected "ambush"

The tragedy unfolded on February 12, 2026, near the Institute of Political Studies (IEP) in Lyon. While LFI MEP Rima Hassan was holding a conference there, tensions erupted with far-right activists demonstrating outside.

According to the family's lawyer, Fabien Rajon, the victim was caught in a real "ambush" set by masked, organized and numerous individuals.

Legal classification: Initially opened for violence, the investigation is now reclassified as "aggravated fatal assault" .
Family appeal: Despite the pain and the denunciation of a "crime", Quentin's relatives have called for calm and restraint.

A political class under pressure

The announcement of this death caused a shockwave and immediate reactions at the highest levels of government:

Emmanuel Macron: The president urged "respect" and wished that the perpetrators of this "ignominy" would be severely punished.
Marine Le Pen (RN): She demanded that "far-left militias" be classified as terrorist organizations.
Manuel Bompard (LFI): The coordinator of the movement condemned "in the strongest possible terms all physical violence".
