Hécatombe française à Rome : Mannarino s'effondre, le clan tricolore en déroute
The clay-court season has turned into a nightmare for French tennis. Right from the start of the Rome Masters 1000, Adrian Mannarino confirmed his current poor form by suffering a heavy defeat against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (ranked 87th in the world). The Frenchman, 45th in the ATP rankings, collapsed in just 90 minutes, losing 6-4, 6-0 .
For the French left-hander, the numbers are alarming. This defeat at the Foro Italico marks his sixth consecutive loss in his opening match. Between the main circuit and a detour to the Cagliari Challenger, nothing seems to work: his engine is seized up.
While Mannarino was the first to break the bad news, he was quickly joined by the rest of the delegation. Despite the hopes placed in the new generation, the men's draw was swiftly emptied of its French representatives.
The men's results:
The women's draw offered little cause for celebration for the French team. Elsa Jacquemot was eliminated in the first round, joining the long list of early exits of the day.
The last hopes now rest on Loïs Boisson (43rd), who faces the formidable Katerina Siniaková, and on qualifier Leolia Jeanjean , who takes on a significant challenge against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia. For the French delegation, the Rome leg already looks like a missed opportunity.
