Iran : la robe de mariée de la fille d’un haut dignitaire embarrasse la république islamique
This Western-style wedding contrasts with Iranian rigor, as the regime is reportedly considering mobilizing 80,000 new morality police officers to enforce the Islamic dress code.
Since last Friday, a wedding video has been igniting Iranian social media. The bride, Fatima Shamkhani, appears in a low-cut dress, arm in arm with her father, Ali Shamkhani , a senior advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and former secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. While the Islamic Republic imposes a strict dress code on women, these images are not going down well with Iranian public opinion.
According to Iran International , a British-Iranian television channel suspected of having close ties to the Saudi government, the footage was leaked on October 17, 2025. The wedding, however, reportedly took place as early as April 2024. Critics of the Iranian regime, including Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, widely shared the clip of the ceremony.
One sequence shows Fatima Shamkhani wearing a strapless, low-cut white wedding dress with a sheer veil, on her father's arm. Finally, the bride's mother wears a low-cut blue dress. The many female guests visible on screen are not wearing hijabs.
A Western-style wedding that contrasts with the regime's usual rigor, as Iran reportedly plans to mobilize 80,000 new morality police officers to enforce the Islamic dress code. A measure that the Secretary of the Promotion of Virtue and the Suppression of Vice in Tehran, Rouhollah Momen-Nasab, announced to the Iranian press on Thursday, October 16.
Since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Iranian women have been required to cover their hair in public places. However, more and more women are defying the authorities' orders. The memory of Mahsa Amini , who died in detention in September 2022 for violating the dress code, is still fresh in Iranian public opinion.
In addition to the controversy surrounding the wedding dress, some Iranians are irritated by the pomp of the ceremony, given the inflation that is hitting the country, particularly due to international sanctions . "For these people ," writes the reformist media, Fararu , "Ali Shamkhani is no different from a movie actor. Crushed under unbridled and unbearable inflation, the citizens watching Shamkhani's daughter get married in a luxury hotel can only be outraged . "
The main person concerned, Ali Shamkhani, reacted laconically on X. "Bunch of bastards, I'm still alive ," he replied to his detractors. A message written in Hebrew, a way of accusing Israel, which he implicitly accuses of having orchestrated the leak.
Other Iranian officials have also commented on the situation. According to media outlets close to the Iranian government, the chairman of the Government Information Council, Elias Hazrati, publicly responded to the release of the clip. "We must be vigilant, because the main objective of this media war is to create distrust and despair in society, not to criticize or correct the behavior of individuals ," he reportedly said at a political meeting in Qazvin province. To be continued.
