The electric atmosphere at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat and the players' boundless energy weren't enough. This Sunday, May 24th, AS FAR had to settle for a 1-1 draw against South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final, thus abandoning their title hopes.
The game could have turned in the 77th minute. After a VAR review, the referee awarded AS FAR a second penalty. Unfortunately, captain Rabie Hrimat's shot was saved by the opposing goalkeeper , missing the opportunity to regain the lead.
The verdict: Having lost the first leg in South Africa (1-0), Rabat were thwarted by the Sundowns' ruthless tactics and discipline. AS FAR missed out on their second continental title and will have to settle for the runner-up spot in the African Cup of Nations.
