Liban : Le chef militaire du Hezbollah, Haitham Ali Tabatabai, tué dans une frappe israélienne
The Lebanese Hezbollah confirmed Sunday evening the death of its military leader, Haitham Ali Tabatabai , in a strike attributed to Israel. The Israeli state had claimed earlier in the evening to have killed the man it described as the chief of staff of the pro-Iranian group.
In a statement, the Shiite movement Hezbollah announced that the "great leader" Tabatabai had been killed this Sunday, November 23, "following an Israeli aggression", without giving details on his exact functions.
According to available information, this is the highest-ranking Hezbollah official eliminated by Israel since the end of the war between the two entities about a year ago.
The Israeli army (IDF) issued a statement in the evening, claiming to have "struck in the Beirut area and eliminated the terrorist Haitham Ali Tabatabai , Hezbollah's chief of staff".
The army described the victim as a "key operative and veteran" of the movement. The IDF emphasized his strategic importance, stating that Tabatabai "played a vital role in expanding Hezbollah's military capabilities , developing the Radwan unit , and disseminating his expertise within the organization."
