Marche pour la vie à Washington : Le combat des anti-IVG s’intensifie sous l'ère Trump
Despite the repeal of federal abortion protections in 2022, pro-life activists have no intention of stopping there. On Friday, thousands of people flooded the streets of Washington for the 53rd annual "March for Life," with a clear objective: to make abortion not only illegal, but "inconceivable."
On the National Mall, the protesters are strikingly young. Between slogans like "Life is a gift" and "Take my hand, not my life," the atmosphere is one of grassroots activism. For many, the end of Roe v. Wade was just the first step.
“It was an excellent start, but things seem to be slowing down at the national level,” says Connor Daggett, 31, a law student. “The fight won’t be over until every unborn child is protected.”
The aspiration of a segment of the crowd has now taken a radical turn: to obtain a total ban nationwide . For Jessie Daggett, a 29-year-old scientist, abortion is a false solution offered to women in distress. This sentiment is shared by many protesters who see the current administration as a historic opportunity to take action.
Vice President JD Vance made a notable appearance for the second year in a row. Addressing the crowd, he sought to reassure a grassroots activist base sometimes impatient with the pace of reforms:
Since 2022, the United States has been more divided than ever on the issue. While some twenty states have already banned or drastically limited access to abortion care, activists in Washington hope to transform these local victories into a strict federal standard.
