Séisme au Sao Paulo FC : le président Julio Casares destitué pour soupçons de corruption
São Paulo FC is experiencing a major institutional crisis. On Friday, the club's deliberative council voted to immediately dismiss its president, 64-year-old Julio Casares. This decision, passed by an overwhelming majority (188 votes to 45), follows the opening of a police investigation into alleged embezzlement.
Brazilian authorities suspect financial irregularities involving approximately 11 million reais (nearly $2 million) withdrawn from the club's accounts between 2021 and 2025. Currently, the interim presidency is being handled by the first vice-president, Harry Massis. Although Casares was re-elected in 2023, his future now hinges on a General Assembly that must definitively ratify his dismissal. This scandal erupts at a critical time, as Hernán Crespo's players prepare to face Flamengo on January 28th for the resumption of the league.
