Tensions au Moyen-Orient : Trump ordonne le blocus du détroit d’Ormuz
On the 45th day of an escalating conflict, US President Donald Trump took a major step on Sunday by announcing a total naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. This decision follows the collapse of peace talks held in Islamabad, where Iran maintained what was considered an "uncompromising" stance on its nuclear program.
Although Donald Trump initially described the talks in Pakistan as productive, stating that "most points had been agreed upon", the deadlock over the nuclear issue ultimately brought the discussions to a halt.
"From now on, the United States Navy, the best in the world, will begin the process of BLOCKAGING all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz," the president said on his Truth Social platform.
The summit concluded Friday without a significant breakthrough. The US vice president left Pakistan without concrete guarantees, marking the end of a round of negotiations that had initially held promise.
On the Iranian side, attempts are being made to downplay the significance of this disagreement. Esmaeil Baqaei , spokesman for Iranian diplomacy, called for restraint, stressing that a final agreement was unrealistic from the outset of discussions.
This blockade is likely to have immediate repercussions on global energy markets, as the Strait of Hormuz is the main transit point for global oil.
