Belmonde Dogo mise sur les alliances interethniques pour cimenter la paix

At a strategic meeting held on Thursday, May 8, 2026, in Yamoussoukro, the Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and the Fight Against Poverty, Myss Belmonde Dogo , advocated for a return to cultural roots. Addressing the National Chamber of Kings and Traditional Chiefs (CNRCT), she identified the revitalization of inter-ethnic alliances as a crucial safeguard against social tensions.

The "Toukpè" as a tool for modern mediation

For the minister, these age-old pacts of non-aggression and mutual assistance are not mere relics of the past, but remarkably effective tools for conflict prevention. She urged the crowned heads of state to once again become the "linchpins" of this mechanism of social regulation.

"By bringing this social game back into fashion, we are convinced that tensions will lessen," she stated before the Chamber's board.

The "House of Chiefs": the 21st-century talking tree

Myss Belmonde Dogo also emphasized the importance of the Maison des Chefs (House of Chiefs ). Far from being a simple administrative building, this space should embody the modern evolution of the palaver tree, serving as a nerve center for resolving community disputes and fostering local dialogue.

Solidarity and the fight against precariousness

Beyond the usual diplomacy, the minister took advantage of this platform to review the State's social commitments:

  1. Productive social safety nets: Direct support to the poorest households.
  2. Family cooking: Strengthening food security.
  3. Single Social Register (SSR): A precise targeting tool to ensure that aid reaches truly vulnerable populations.

Unwavering support from traditional authorities

In response, His Majesty Amon Tanoé Paul Désiré , Chairman of the Board, confirmed the full commitment of the guardians of tradition. He recalled that mediation has been part of the DNA of customary institutions for centuries.

For his part, the spokesperson for the chiefs, Nanan N'Guessan Begbin , welcomed this government vision which favours the non-judicial settlement of conflicts, a guarantee of lasting harmony within Ivorian villages.
