Drame ferroviaire en Éthiopie : au moins 14 morts après une collision de trains
A tragic train accident has killed at least 14 people and injured dozens more in eastern Ethiopia. A train packed with merchants collided with a stopped convoy near Dire Dawa on Monday evening, according to a local official.
The accident occurred as the train, carrying merchants and their goods, was returning from Dire Dawa, a town near the border with Djibouti. Ibrahim Usman, the mayor of Dire Dawa, confirmed the death toll of 14 in a Facebook statement published Tuesday, expressing his deep sorrow at the disaster.
Witnesses interviewed by The Associated Press reported that rescue workers were slow to arrive at the scene, with a lack of ambulances immediately available. Local residents had to pull the injured from the train carriages.
