Booba en garde à vue après une plainte de Gims pour harcèlement

Rapper Booba was taken into police custody in Paris on Wednesday. He is accused of moral harassment and cyberbullying by another big name in French rap: Gims.

A complaint filed by Gims and his wife

According to the complaint filed in August 2024, Gims and his partner Demdem claim to have been victims of repeated attacks by Booba for six years. They also denounce the aggressive behavior of some of the rapper's fans, whom they believe are encouraged by his social media posts.

An investigation was opened in September 2024.

Insulting messages on social media

Gims and Demdem point to several of Booba's messages as insulting. They talk about attacks on Gims's appearance, with photos posted without his glasses, or insults like:

"You look like cat food, you filthy wizard."

The recently released song "Dolce Camara" is said to be the culmination of the harassment, according to them. In this song, Booba refers to Demdem with lyrics that are considered humiliating. He sings:

“We like them fresh, very michtos, who know how to welcome like Demdem.”

Booba, for his part, justifies this song by saying that Gims insulted his daughter.

Background with Magali Berdah

Booba has already been charged in another case for online harassment against Magali Berdah, an influencer agent. He regularly criticizes her on social media, calling her a "flu-volent" person.

An investigation into Berdah for deceptive business practices, launched after complaints from Booba, was closed in March.

And other ongoing matters

On December 3, Booba is also due to be tried for racist insults and aggravated cyberbullying against a journalist and an essayist.

So far, his lawyers have not responded to his custody. Neither has Gims's lawyer.

Booba could be released without charge, or be brought before a judge for further legal action.
