Tupac : Quand Janet Jackson lui demandait de passer un test de dépistage du sida

American rap legend Tupac Shakur was considered a hip-hop UFO. His talent and, above all, his music dedicated to supporting his people quickly made him a hugely popular artist. Versatile, the son of Afemi Shakur excelled in rap, theater, and film.

In 1993, three years before his assassination in Las Vegas, he starred in a film called "Poetic Justice" with Janet Jackson.

A playboy reputation

On the set of the film, Michael Jackson's sister allegedly asked him to take an AIDS test before a kissing scene. Renowned biographer Jeff Pearlman made the revelation in his new book, "Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives of Tupac Shakur."

According to his writings, a few days before the famous scene, Tupac kept saying that he was going to "overwhelm Jackson with his lips and mouth."

The young woman, who was with her then-fiancé, René Elizondo Jr., took the film's producer, Steve Nicolaides, aside and told him that she wanted Tupac to take an AIDS test, given his reputation as a playboy.

Tupac refuses to take the test

"I don't want to 'exchange saliva with him until I'm really sure he's healthy and clean," she reportedly said. When Nicolaides brought the request to Tupac, he refused.

The producer said what Janet said was not unreasonable, since AIDS was still raging in the early 1990s and Tupac had a reputation as a playboy.

Despite this slight tension, the film was made and did quite well, grossing $27 million. The entire production budget was half that amount.
