CEDEAO : Le Sénégal sollicite le soutien de la Côte d'Ivoire pour la candidature du Général Birame Diop
Abidjan and Dakar are strengthening their diplomatic ties. On Monday, June 8, 2026, the Ivorian Vice-President, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, granted an audience to Cheick Niang, Senegalese Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, who carried a strategic message from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to his counterpart Alassane Ouattara.
At the heart of this high-level meeting: the positioning of General Birame Diop for the presidency of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
This initiative is part of the regular consultations between Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal. As the sub-region goes through a pivotal period for its institutions, the two countries share a common vision: that of strengthened African integration and increased collaboration within international bodies.
