Côte d’Ivoire : le PDCI s’insurge après la garde à vue du député Soumaïla Bredoumy et lance un appel à la mobilisation
Soumaïla Bredoumy, a member of parliament and spokesperson for the PDCI-RDA party, was taken into custody on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the Abidjan Police Headquarters, following his hearing. This continued detention is part of an investigation in which he faces, according to the judicial authorities, 11 serious charges.
In the wake of this arrest, the PDCI-RDA reacted strongly, denouncing what it called an "arbitrary" arrest and a "flagrant violation" of parliamentary immunity. The party called on its members, supporters, and all citizens to remain vigilant and mobilized in the face of what it perceives as a political maneuver with serious consequences.
According to the authorities, Soumaïla Bredoumy is being prosecuted for a range of offences which include acts classified as terrorism, incitement to insurrection, hatred, xenophobia, incitement to murder, conspiracy against the authority of the State, threats to security and public order, as well as serious offences such as theft, arson of public and private property, and slanderous denunciation.
His lawyers are contesting the legality of his detention: according to them, the lack of evidence of a flagrant offense and the failure to respect constitutional procedures relating to parliamentary immunity render the measure illegal. They assert that nothing justified continued detention without the prior authorization of the National Assembly.
Bredoumy's return to Ivory Coast, just days before his summons by the police, comes at a sensitive electoral and political time. Some members of the opposition and the PDCI-RDA believe this detention is part of a broader strategy of political pressure targeting opposition leaders.
The PDCI-RDA also calls on national institutions, international human rights organizations, and the international community to monitor the procedure and ensure respect for the principles of the rule of law.
In summary , the arrest and detention of Soumaïla Bredoumy have deeply shocked a segment of public opinion and reignited the debate on parliamentary immunity and the balance of power in Côte d'Ivoire. The PDCI-RDA, at the forefront of this movement, is demanding the immediate release of its member of parliament and calling for general mobilization, warning of a dangerous turning point for democracy in the country.
