Côte d’Ivoire : Michel Gbagbo convoqué à la Préfecture de police
Michel Gbagbo, MP for Yopougon and son of former President Laurent Gbagbo, was summoned this Tuesday, October 28, 2025, by the Abidjan Police Prefecture. This summons also concerns twelve other officials of the African Peoples' Party - Côte d'Ivoire (PPA-CI). Those concerned are invited to appear at the General Investigation Department, accompanied by their lawyers.
The authorities have not released the precise reasons for these summonses. However, they come in a tense political context, a few days after the presidential election of October 25, 2025, won by Alassane Ouattara with 89.77% of the vote. The PDCI-PPA-CI Common Front, to which Michel Gbagbo belongs, had challenged Mr. Ouattara's candidacy for a fourth term and denounced the exclusion of certain figures, including Laurent Gbagbo and Tidjane Thiam, from the electoral process.
Other personalities summoned include Sébastien Dano Djédjé, Justin Katinan Koné, Assoa Adou, Habiba Touré, Demba Traoré, Damana Pickass, Fadiga Kissous, Zéhéroué Édouard, Étiassé Sam, Séhi Gaspard and Hubert Oulaye.
Unlike some political leaders who have gone into exile, Michel Gbagbo remained in Côte d'Ivoire during the election period, which could explain his summons. To date, no official information has been released regarding the outcome of this move.
