Côte d’Ivoire : Patrick Achi désigné candidat du RHDP pour la présidence de l’Assemblée nationale
The election of the President of the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire is scheduled for this Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Abidjan. As this major institutional event approaches, the Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) , the majority political party following the legislative elections of December 2025, has officially nominated Patrick Achi as its candidate for the position.
The appointment of the former Prime Minister comes amidst the RHDP's strong parliamentary dominance , as it holds a comfortable majority in the new National Assembly. This political configuration puts Patrick Achi in a favorable position to succeed Adama Bictogo , the outgoing president of the institution.
The vote will take place during the inaugural session of the new legislature , convened in accordance with constitutional provisions. The members of parliament will elect the Speaker of the National Assembly, a strategic position responsible for organizing parliamentary business and representing the institution.
Former head of government and central figure of the Ivorian executive in recent years, Patrick Achi benefits from recognized institutional experience , at a time when the National Assembly is called upon to play a key role in examining major political, economic and social reforms.
Barring any last-minute surprises, the vote on January 17 should confirm the choice of the majority party , in a political climate marked by the recomposition of the parliamentary landscape and the installation of the new bodies resulting from the 2025 legislative elections.
