Crise au PPA-CI : Radiations, suspensions et expulsions, Nady Bamba fait le vide autour de Gbagbo

The wave of purges shaking the African People's Party - Ivory Coast (PPA-CI) has reached a new level. Following the notable expulsions of Ahoua Don Mello , Fernand Ahilé , and Kanga Kouakou Antoine , as well as the suspension of 13 other officials, another head has rolled. Ambroise Gnahoua , chief of staff to the party's Secretary General, suffered a humiliating double expulsion during both the ordinary congress and the Renaissance Festival.

For observers, these events confirm a theory increasingly shared within the party: Laurent Gbagbo is being held hostage within his own party . This disciplinary crackdown seriously calls into question the former head of state's ability to maintain party cohesion and lead his troops to victory.

The impossible rallying point after the electoral fiascos

Following the PPA-CI's successive boycotts of the 2025 presidential and legislative elections, political logic would have dictated that the leadership engage in a dispassionate self-assessment. The objective should have been to wipe the slate clean and rally activists and leaders for future battles.

Instead of turning the page, the party has chosen a heavy-handed approach. While the official argument rests on the failure to respect boycott instructions, those in the know see a very different reality: Nady Bamba, Laurent Gbagbo's wife, is cleaning house within the "Gbagbo sphere." Anyone who refuses to pledge allegiance to the "high priestess" is ruthlessly sidelined.

A gradation of sanctions calculated down to the millimeter

The PPA-CI sanctions table reveals a two-tiered justice system, cleverly orchestrated according to the degree of docility of the executives towards the line dictated by Nady Bamba.

Sanction Managers involved Unofficial motive / Profile
Permanent radiation Ahoua Don Mello, Fernand Ahilé, Kanga K. Antoine Open opponents of Nady Bamba's authority.
18-month suspension Stéphane Kipré, Georges Armand Ouégnin Those close to Nady Bamba who violated the boycott.
12-month suspension 11 anonymous activists Lack of discipline, but not flagged as "anti-Nady".
Double expulsion from the field Ambroise Gnahoua (Chief of Staff to the Secretary General) Ostracized for contradicting the statements of Gbagbo's wife.

The "real rebels" neutralized

The heaviest sanctions target figures perceived as genuine counterweights to the influence of Nady Bamba.

  1. Ahoua Don Mello: His crime? Daring to challenge the consensus and run in the presidential election, while Nady Bamba insisted everywhere that Laurent Gbagbo was the "sole candidate, from plan A to plan Z." His disqualification seems like a political execution intended to make an example of him.
  2. Fernand Ahilé: Heavily sanctioned for publicly supporting Don Mello.
  3. Kanga Kouakou Antoine: Already having joined the RHDP (the ruling party), his expulsion is a symbolic non-event aimed solely at making an impression on people in the face of the "traitors".

The Ambroise Gnahoua case: the intolerable crime of lèse-majesté

The forceful expulsion of Ambroise Gnahoua demonstrates that no position, however strategic, offers protection from the wrath of the former president's wife. As chief of staff to the party's Secretary General, Gnahoua is not just any ordinary party member.

His mistake was publishing a text that nuanced Nady Bamba's remarks, which presented Laurent Gbagbo as the "sole political reference point for the Ivorian left." Instantly declared persona non grata , he was barred from official ceremonies.

Selective justice: Conversely, Stéphane Kipré, considered to be indebted to Nady Bamba, gets away with a mere 18-month suspension despite his flagrant violation of the boycott order for the December 2025 legislative elections.

Shocked by his expulsion, Ambroise Gnahoua wondered: "Who is this person who, secretly, decided to exclude me?" A rhetorical question that implicitly exonerates Laurent Gbagbo, confirming that the real power in the PPA-CI has indeed changed hands.
