In Ivory Coast, the political climate is becoming increasingly tense following the announcement of the successive deaths of two young supporters of the Party of African Peoples – Ivory Coast (PPA-CI) . Laurent Gbagbo's party strongly condemns the "inhumane" treatment of detainees and demands a full investigation into these disappearances.

A dark series of events in detention

The victims, Monnet Marius and Gnan Guélablé , had been arrested in connection with protests against a possible fourth term for President Alassane Ouattara. Imprisoned on charges of "disturbing public order," they died just one week apart while awaiting trial.

"Unacceptable" living conditions

The PPA-CI Youth League expressed its "consternation" in a press release, painting an alarming picture of the prison situation:

1. Suspected food poisoning: The party raises the possibility of suspected cases of food poisoning.
2. Medical negligence: A glaring lack of health monitoring and emergency care is highlighted.
3. Health emergency: In addition to the two deaths, a third inmate is currently in critical condition, and several others are showing worrying signs.

Calls for independent expertise

Describing these activists as "prisoners of conscience," the youth movement of the PPA-CI directly calls on the authorities to respect fundamental freedoms. To shed light on these tragedies, the party demands:

1. The performance of independent autopsies to establish the true causes of death.
2. Immediate medical assistance for all sick prisoners.
