Justice : le député malien Mamadou Hawa Gassama condamné à 3 ans de prison
The Ivorian justice system has sentenced Mamadou Hawa Gassama , a Malian member of parliament and member of the National Transitional Council (CNT), to three years in prison . The decision was handed down in Abidjan, following a trial concerning remarks deemed offensive to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara .
The charges against the Malian politician date back to 2022 , when he made inflammatory statements openly criticizing the Ivorian head of state. These remarks, widely circulated on social media and in the press, were deemed by the Ivorian justice system to be an insult to the head of state .
Arrested during a trip to Ivory Coast, Mamadou Hawa Gassama was tried by the Abidjan Court of First Instance. In addition to a prison sentence, he was also ordered to pay a fine of several million CFA francs and banned from entering Ivory Coast upon his release.
