Laurent Gbagbo à Ouattara : « Cessons d’être nègres »

Last July, Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara announced his candidacy for a fourth term . He justified his decision by the need to preserve national stability in the face of "unprecedented security, economic, and monetary challenges." While recently interviewing Laurent Gbagbo, renowned journalist Alain Foka asked him if he understood Ouattara's arguments. The former president replied in the negative.

For him, it is not because there are security threats in Ivory Coast that Ouattara will decide to cling to power.

"That's why we're being laughed at."

"The United States of America is dealing with nuclear threats from China, North Korea, and Russia, but that's not why Trump is going to say, 'There are nuclear threats, so I'm staying in power.' Let's stop being black, because that's why we're being laughed at," the octogenarian said.

He is convinced that another elected president will be able to face these threats that Mr. Ouattara is talking about.

"Why should it be only him, Ouattara, who would be the only Zoro in the situation? ...There is always a threat. I have known war. Isn't rebellion a terrorist war? But I faced it," recalled the former Ivorian president.
