Le PPA-CI mobilise le COSIM pour la libération des prisonniers d'opinion
In an effort to advocate with religious authorities, a delegation from the African People's Party – Ivory Coast (PPA-CI) visited the headquarters of the Higher Council of Imams, Mosques and Islamic Affairs (COSIM) on Wednesday, February 18, 2025. Their objective was to obtain the moral support of the Muslim clergy for the release of detained activists.
Led by Ambassador Emmanuel Acka , coordinator of the Initiative for the Liberation of Prisoners of Conscience, the delegation was received by Cheick Aïma Ousmane Diakité , president of COSIM.
This audience held particular symbolic significance, coinciding with the simultaneous start of Ramadan and the Christian fast of Lent. The Sheikh welcomed the visit as "fraternal" and expressed his openness to dialogue.
“We have listened carefully to the requests. Our first response is prayer, but beyond that, we will consider other opportunities for action if they arise.”
For his part, Emmanuel Acka welcomed the quality of the listening, hoping that this spiritual mediation will bear fruit in calming the political climate.
Laurent Gbagbo's party is basing this diplomatic offensive on precise figures and a firm political position:
This visit to COSIM is not an isolated incident. It is part of a tour of the country's major religious institutions . For the PPA-CI, the involvement of spiritual leaders is essential to securing the release of those they consider political prisoners and thus fostering genuine national reconciliation before the upcoming elections.
