Ivorian Senate: The legislative program for the March-June 2026 session officially launched

Sénat ivoirien : Le programme législatif de la session mars-juin 2026 officiellement lancé

Meeting in plenary session this Friday, March 13, 2026, in Yamoussoukro, the Ivorian senators reached a key milestone in parliamentary life. Under the leadership of the president of the upper house, Kandia Camara , the institution approved its work schedule for the next quarter and adjusted its internal teams.

A busy legislative calendar: 25 bills under consideration

The period from March 13 to June 19, 2026, promises to be particularly busy for the members of the upper house. A total of 25 bills will be submitted to the senators for consideration, broken down as follows:

  1. 13 draft ratifications of ordinances;
  2. 7 ordinary bills;
  3. 5 draft ratifications of international treaties and agreements.

Changes within the standing committees

The session also served to ratify the new configuration of the committees, marked by the arrival of faces appointed by the Head of State and internal promotions:

  1. New members: Souleymane Touré (Social and Cultural Affairs) and Abiba Sanogo née Koné Tidou (Economic and Financial Affairs) are joining.
  2. Promotions: Lassina Traoré becomes Deputy General Rapporteur (Local Authorities) and Jean Désiré Yapobi is appointed Second Vice-President of the External Relations Committee.

Furthermore, a decree was signed by the president to clarify the areas of competence of the vice-presidents , covering both international cooperation and parliamentary affairs.

Focus on decentralization: An international symposium is planned

The Senate confirms its role as protector of the territories by announcing the organization of a major event from March 26 to 28, 2026 .

Entitled "Accelerating Decentralization for Effective Local Development," this international symposium will bring together experts, elected officials, and institutional partners. The objective is clear: to transform decentralization theories into concrete levers for harmonious and sustainable local development in Côte d'Ivoire.
