General Apalo intervenes to restore calm
Recent days in Yamoussoukro have been marked by demonstrations and roadblocks, with participants expressing their opposition to a new term for Alassane Ouattara.
After several police interventions that led to arrests, General Alexandre Apalo Touré adopted a strategy of dialogue on Tuesday evening. He went to the scene to speak with the protesters. He urged them to stop the blockades and return home, warning that a return to a more repressive and repressive solution would be considered if these actions persisted.
An exchange results in a mutual commitment
The young protesters took the opportunity of this exchange to present their main demand: the release of their comrades arrested during the protests against the $4^th$ mandate.
According to accounts from young people on the scene, General Apalo pledged to work for the release of the detainees in the following days. In return for this promise, the protesters began removing the roadblocks. However, they stated that they would resume their mobilization if the General's commitment was not honored.
This de-escalation approach gives hope for a return to normality and calm in Yamoussoukro in the near future.
