Zambie : le président Hichilema visé par des jets de pierres à Chingola, treize personnes arrêtées

Tension and shock gripped Chingola. During a presidential visit, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema was pelted with stones while addressing the crowd at the Chiwempala market in the Copperbelt mining district. The incident, which occurred under heavy security, momentarily caused panic among those present.

Images shared on social media show a restless crowd while security forces protect the president. No serious injuries have been reported, but the attack has sent political shockwaves across the country.

Zambian police initially reported five arrests, before confirming the arrest of thirteen suspects linked to the incident.

"This was a premeditated act of violence and a direct threat to public order," said Home Minister Jack Mwiimbu , adding that investigations are continuing to identify the perpetrators of the attack.

The Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) condemned the violence, recalling that "political differences should never justify the use of force against republican institutions."

On the ground, the exact causes of this hostility remain unclear. Some observers see it as a sign of growing social and political tensions in the mining region, as Zambia prepares for new elections.

Despite the incident, Hakainde Hichilema continued his tour, calling for restraint and dialogue. "Violence does not build a nation, it destroys it," declared the president, determined to stay the course on his program of economic reforms and stability.
