On the occasion of the commemoration of Laylatoul-Kadr , better known as the Night of Destiny , the Ivorian government has officially decreed Monday, March 16, 2026 as a public holiday and day off throughout the national territory.

A strict regulatory framework

This decision, announced via a press release signed on March 12 by Adama Kamara , Minister of Employment and Social Protection, is based on existing legislation:

Decree No. 2011-371 of November 4, 2011 (amending the 1996 decree).
The goal is to allow workers and worshippers to recover after a night devoted to prayer and spiritual devotion.

Why this day off?

The Night of Destiny holds a central place in the Muslim calendar. In Ivory Coast, this measure reflects the State's desire to:

Supporting religious practice by offering a necessary period of rest after vigils.
Strengthening social cohesion by officially recognizing the major spiritual milestones of the country's various communities.
Promoting living together , a pillar of Ivorian social policy.

Practical impacts

Starting this Monday, the cessation of activities affects:

Public administrations ;
The private sector (businesses and shops);
Schools and universities.

Note: Normal operations are expected to resume the following day, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
