Abidjan : 54 enfants des rues mis à l'abri face aux intempéries par la ministre Nassénéba Touré

During the rainy season, the Ministry of Women, Family and Children is intensifying its protection efforts. A nighttime patrol conducted last weekend in Cocody and Yopougon rescued dozens of minors in danger.

An emergency intervention in response to climate and health risks

On the night of Friday, July 3rd to Saturday, July 4th, 2026, Minister Nassénéba Touré personally led a patrol in the Cocody and Yopougon districts. This field visit resulted in the rescue of 54 vulnerable children , who were immediately transferred to the Songon Listening and Referral Center for comprehensive care.

This emergency action aims first and foremost to protect these young people from the immediate dangers of the rainy season, marked by risks of flooding, landslides and vector-borne diseases.

"I refuse to see our children sleeping in the rain, amidst dirty water and disease. Every night spent outside is an additional danger," the minister insisted, noting on site cases of high fever and extreme poverty.

The PPEAV assessment (2021-2026): Beyond the emergency, sustainable integration

This outreach program is part of the ongoing Vulnerable Child and Adolescent Protection Program (PPEAV) . The ministry emphasizes that its work goes beyond simply providing temporary shelter, but includes comprehensive social, educational, and medical support.

Between 2021 and 2026, the results of the interventions proved to be significant:

  1. 209 organized patrols .
  2. 7,431 children and adolescents taken care of.
  3. 3,003 successful family reunifications .
  4. 2,603 reintegrations into school.
  5. 2,082 referrals towards vocational training or apprenticeships.
  6. 815 specialized care services (health, addiction treatment).

“We are not just taking children off the streets for one night. We are working to offer them a future,” said Nassénéba Touré, referring to efforts to strengthen the capacities of families and partnerships with training centers.

A call for community responsibility: Call 116 to report danger

Faced with this problem, the minister called upon parents and communities to fulfill their duty to protect children, reminding them that homelessness is not inevitable. Families in difficulty are encouraged to contact social services or use the toll-free number 116 to report any child in a vulnerable situation.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Ivorian government, Nassénéba Touré recalled that the protection of children remains an absolute priority, all the more crucial during this period of severe weather.
