Abidjan : Une tentative de suicide déjouée sur le pont De Gaulle grâce à la vigilance citoyenne
The worst was narrowly avoided this Thursday, December 18, 2025. A man, threatening to end his life by jumping into the Ébrié lagoon from the De Gaulle bridge, was rescued in time.
Alerted around 10:54 by eyewitnesses, the members of the Military Firefighters Group (GSPM) intervened in record time, arriving on the scene at 11:10. To secure the operation, a Rapid Intervention Boat (ERI 21) had been pre-positioned under the bridge.
In a statement, the GSPM (Fire and Rescue Service of Marseille) praised the civic-mindedness of passersby: "Citizens are the first link in the emergency response chain." Authorities remind the public that in case of emergency, the numbers 180 (freephone) or 01 01 801 328 are available.
