A serious traffic accident occurred late Wednesday morning, June 17, 2026. A coach belonging to the SBTA transport company went off the road violently on the Northern Highway, at kilometer marker (PK) 63 on the southbound lane.

A heavy human toll

The accident involved a large number of passengers. The provisional death toll stands at 53 in total , distributed as follows:

1. Three deaths confirmed at the scene.
2. 5 seriously injured people received emergency care.
3. 21 injured people were evacuated to the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Yopougon using high-capacity resuscitation ambulances (ARGC 41).
4. 28 people refused their transfer to the hospital after signing a liability waiver.
5. 1 person who refused both the medical evacuation and the signing of the discharge.

A major mobilization of emergency services

Alerted at 11:17 a.m., the 7th Company of the Military Firefighters Group (GSPM) based in N'Zianouan immediately deployed heavy logistical and human resources (including the FPT 71 fire engine and the ARGC 71 and 41 ambulances).

Several other entities were also deployed to the scene to secure the area and manage the situation:

1. The National Gendarmerie
2. The Road Maintenance Fund (FER)
3. Lifting teams
4. Funeral services
