This worsening situation comes amid critical underfunding : only $3.9 billion was mobilized in 2024, which is far from the $9.3 billion needed for 2025 to ensure an effective response.
Transmitted by the bites of infected mosquitoes, malaria remains one of the deadliest diseases. Its initial symptoms (fever, chills, vomiting, flu-like symptoms) can rapidly progress to serious, even fatal, complications if left untreated.
