Coopération internationale : Le CHU d’Angré et l'Université Harvard s'allient pour la santé publique

On June 29, 2026 , the Angré University Hospital (CHU) reached a key milestone in its international outreach by welcoming a delegation from the prestigious Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health . Led by Professor Stéphane Verguet , a specialist in health economics, this visit is part of the ongoing modernization and strengthening of the Ivorian healthcare system.

The key objectives of the meeting

Chaired by Dr. Koffi Aka (Chief of Staff to the Minister of Health) and Dr. Ehui Bernard (Technical Advisor), this immersion aims to support government reforms through three major axes:

  1. Optimizing hospital management and the efficiency of the healthcare system.
  2. Strengthening the skills of Ivorian health professionals in public health.
  3. Exploring partnerships in clinical research, continuing education and health economics.

An immersion into the heart of technical performance

The American delegation was given a tour of the Angré University Hospital's facilities, including strategic departments such as medical biology, imaging, internal medicine, and geriatrics . This visit highlighted the expertise of the teams and the quality of the hospital's organization.

"The Angré University Hospital welcomes an average of 50,000 patients each year. Our ambition is to offer each patient care that meets the highest standards. Thanks to the support of the Minister of Health, we now have a high-performance technical platform that enhances the expertise of our teams."
Dr. Diabaté Moussa , Director General of the Angré University Hospital

The institution currently relies on ten services structured into specialized hubs to guarantee optimal care.

The CMU: A model of accessibility praised by Harvard

The Director General took the opportunity to explain the practical operation of Universal Health Coverage (CMU) within the institution, using a telling financial example:

Medical procedure Standard cost CMU coverage (70%) Patient out-of-pocket expenses (30%)
CT scan 100,000 FCFA 70,000 FCFA 30,000 FCFA

Professor Stéphane Verguet warmly welcomed this social protection mechanism, describing it as "a guarantee of transparency." According to him, this system allows patients to tangibly and immediately perceive the benefits of their CMU (Universal Health Coverage) membership through a drastic reduction in their direct healthcare expenses.
