Agnibilékrou : une mère et ses quatre filles meurent dans un incendie nocturne
A violent fire that occurred on the night of Thursday, October 30 to Friday, October 31, 2025, claimed the lives of a woman and her four daughters in the Liberté district of Agnibilékrou, plunging the local community into shock and sadness.
The fire reportedly broke out around 2 a.m. while the family was asleep. Smoke quickly filled their apartment, a small bedroom-living room with a metal door. According to initial reports, this door, difficult to open in the emergency, prevented the victims from escaping.
Alerted by the flames and screams, neighbors tried to intervene using rudimentary means, as there was no water or proper equipment. No firefighters were able to arrive in time, as the nearest brigade was located in Abengourou.
Following the fire, the five bodies were found without any visible burns. Initial findings indicate death by asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire. An electrical short circuit is the leading theory at this stage.
This tragedy has reignited the debate about the inadequacy of emergency infrastructure in certain parts of the country. Residents have expressed their concern and called for the establishment of a fire station in Agnibilékrou to reduce response times.
Local authorities are expected to provide more information in the coming days.
