Bocanda : 16 interpellations suite aux émeutes pour l'eau et l'électricité
The city of Bocanda is gradually returning to calm after a wave of violent protests linked to shortages of basic services. As of Thursday, March 19, 2026, 16 people were arrested and brought before the courts.
It all started in schools. Fed up with the ongoing water and electricity cuts, students walked out of class to directly confront the Prefect at his residence. This initially peaceful march was quickly joined by residents and bystanders, transforming the mobilization into a large-scale urban demonstration.
Faced with a police barricade preventing access to administrative areas, tensions escalated. The demonstration then turned violent.
The law enforcement operation resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals . After being held in custody at the local police station, they were brought before the Dimbokro prosecutor's office to answer for their actions.
Situation update: As of Saturday, March 21, calm has returned to the neighborhoods. Water and electricity services have been restored, thus extinguishing the source of anger, although the trauma of the looting remains for local authorities.
