Côte d’Ivoire : 319 plaques d’immatriculation irrégulières déjà retirées lors de l’opération nationale
The enforcement phase of the operation to control illegal license plates has effectively begun on Ivorian roads. According to initial figures released by the authorities, 319 generic, fictitious, or non-compliant plates have been confiscated in just a few days.
Led by the Directorate General of Land Transport and Traffic (DGTTC), with the support of the National Police and Gendarmerie, this vast operation targets vehicles circulating with falsified, concealed or non-compliant license plates.
In addition to removing the offending license plates, several vehicles were impounded and taken to the pound , their owners being asked to regularize their situation before they could be released. The checks target all categories of road users, including government vehicles, in a clear effort to end impunity.
Through this action, the government intends to strengthen road safety, facilitate the identification of vehicles in the event of an offence or criminal act and establish better discipline in traffic.
This first haul of 319 removed license plates demonstrates the scale of the phenomenon and confirms the determination of the authorities to continue controls throughout the territory.
